A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.
I am an active QCSD parent-volunteer. I worked in the administration at three public schools for 10 years. I also covered education for 10 years in the Poconos, Lehigh Valley, and NY news media.
Pocono Mountain School District, 1982. BA, Journalism, Indiana University of PA, 1986.
In the Summer of 2020, I applied to fill an open position on the QCSD Board based on a member's resignation. I see a need for a Board member who can openly and honestly address matters of school safety, education quality, and open, transparent governing.
Throughout my career I have held leadership positions where it was necessary to manage different opinions and ideals in order to focus on moving forward to serve the greater community. I want to put that experience to work for the Quakertown Community School District.
At public schools I have been responsible for hiring, budgeting, developing communications plans, engaging dialogues with local, state, and federal officials; and speaking on behalf of the schools to the media and community as a spokesperson.
I have lived in Quakertown for 16 years and am currently a proud stay-at-home father with twin boys in the fifth grade at Trumbauersville Elementary School.
I am now at a time in my life where I can use my background to give back to the greater Quakertown community. I understand the time commitment required to serve on the Board of School Directors at the Quakertown Community School District and appreciate and respect the immense responsibility and pressure currently before the Board.

My professional focus is on safety, so safety and security of our students, teachers and staff is a primary concern of mine. Children cannot learn effectively if they do not feel they are in a safe environment. I have been pleased with the leadership, curriculum and quality of education that my children received at QCSD. My goal is to help the district keep up with changing times.
I will work hard and collaboratively with administration and board members to make decisions that will benefit the district in both the short and long term. I have a long history of improving several different companies and organizations, and feel I can bring my collective experience to the school board.
I believe all should be treated equally. No one should be discriminated against. It is a universal opinion of everyone I have spoken with in my community.
Any changes to the current health and safety plan would depend on circumstances at that time.
