What are the most pressing issues facing the public that you plan to address?

What will be your top priority if you are elected and how will you achieve that goal?

My 10 years of experience as a Metro Councilmember and Mayor's Aide give me an authentic understanding of government. These roles have also provided me the experience of working with the community to build community. My 15 years of experience as a youth service provider and executive at the YMCA gives me a unique perspective of leading staff teams to work on behalf of youth and families. My 3+ years of experience as the current Juvenile Court Clerk has given me great insight to the juvenile justice system and how it can be improved. Finally my experience as a father has taught me that parenting is not an easy job. I want to continue to bring my empathy for other parents and their kids in the role of Juvenile Court Clerk.
Public Safety will always be a high priority in our community. It also can mean something different to everyone depending on the community they live in. We must reimagine public safety in Nashville, so that every community feels supported, safe and protected. Creating a more restorative, trauma-informed juvenile court is part of the reimagining work we need to do. I want to help Nashville's Juvenile Court become a national model by 1) continuing to change and improve policies to be more trauma-informed and 2) continue to embrace innovation to improve efficiency and effectiveness of delivered services and programs.
Building a youth-centered, trauma-informed campus with well-designed facilities to provide restorative justice to youth holistically is my top priority as Juvenile Court Clerk. I will achieve this by working collaboratively with Judge Sheila Calloway, Nashville's Mayor and Metro Council to secure the resources to create this campus. We will also have to engage community and stakeholders throughout the process.
