The biggest challenge we face is how to effectively manage our growth and preserve all of the characteristics that make Williamson County so unique. As a fiscally conservative county, we want to avoid raising property taxes to pay for the growth, so we have to find creative and common-sense solutions to spend our tax dollars responsibly and at the same time look for ways to increase alternative revenue streams.
I want every citizen in my district to know who I am and how to connect with me. Given the numerous channels available, it will be challenging to cover all of them. I plan on keeping my website and social media channels as one option. I will also have phone, email and text as other options to reach out to me. Participating in as many community events is another great way to get out in the community and make personal connections. There are both monthly meetings and community events occurring all the time. I will be sure to add these events to my calendar to attend when I am able.
There are many challenges within our schools which vary greatly depending on whether you are referring to elementary, middle or high school. But, by far, our biggest challenge is recruiting new and retaining experienced educators. We have over 200 job openings in Williamson County and even more in Rutherford and Davidson which means we are dealing with a very competitive job market. Williamson County needs to create a task force including educators, parents, school board, and administrators to address this situation. If there are any additional funds needed to support these efforts, then those need to be brought forth and approved by the county commission.
Public Safety is at the top of this list. We have got to prioritize fully funding our law enforcement, EMS and fire services. A competitively compensated workforce and well-maintained equipment are crucial to ensuring the safety of our families, homes and businesses. These hometown heroes deserve our utmost respect and support.
