I’m very familiar with the needs of the 25th Illinois Senate District. I was born and raised in the heart of the 25th Senate District where I was a social worker in the school system and then Vice President of The District 33 school board. I then served as State Representative for the 49th House District before being elected to the State Senate. My experiences growing up in West Chicago, working in the education system and as a State legislator have allowed me to hear the issues facing my constituents throughout the district and fight for their needs in Springfield.
Unfortunately, my constituents are facing many challenges. One issue in particular is healthcare access and affordability. During my time as an Illinois legislator, I fought hard to pass the Reproductive Health Act,legislation protecting women’s reproductive healthcare, and drug price caps to name a few. I continue to ensure my constituents have quality and accessible healthcare by fighting for adequate funding for mental health and addiction services, access to healthcare services for the underserved members of my community and public options to make healthcare affordable for all.
The safety of all my constituents will always be a high priority. I hope to make Illinois a safe state for the immigrant community during the complicated process of obtaining citizenship. I will continue to support federal legislation addressing immigration policy reform. I also hope to achieve affordable, easily accessible healthcare for all in Illinois, fully funded schools, a sustainable economy for small businesses, and pass more impactful legislation to address the climate crisis.
