What qualifications do you bring to the office?
What is a major challenge facing your constituents and how will you address it?
What are the major goals you hope to achieve should you be elected to office?
The citizens elected me to the Naperville City Council in 2015, and again in 2019. The fourth largest city in IL, with an approximate $500,000,000+ budget, 900+ employees, and 145,000+ residents. As a DuPage County Water Commissioner, I represent the People of DuPage County. Before being elected Councilwoman, I was Naperville PZC Chairwoman for 3 years, and served on those Naperville and Lisle Boards for over two decades. I am Liaison to Naperville’s Sister Cities Commission creating opportunities for cultural exploration; economic development, trade opportunities, while addressing mutual issues; before that the DuPage Mayor’s and Manager’s Commission, the Naperville Library and Downtown Naperville Advisory board. I am a businesswoman, a real estate broker and before a Paralegal serving the United States at DOJ and FDIC. I am a DePaul University graduate, married, a mother, and a member of a proud immigrant family with much diversity.
Safety, but not just from crime. We are more angry, more uncertain, more polarized, and a more judgmental people today. We celebrate our differences but also condemn those that are different for their past. We feel more unsafe from crime, but too many distrusts those that protect and represent us. Our mental health concerns are growing every day, but our legal and illegal drug use is as well, and the hardest hit are our youth. Our gasoline, heating, and food costs are soaring, and we feel more financially exposed than ever. So, our major challenge is to regain a level of social and financial safety where we all succeed and grow. I don’t have all the answers, but I know how to listen, and my record shows it. We all really want the same thing: Stable jobs, stable taxes, stable government services, and the opportunity to live and raise our families in a supportive and growing community.
We must remove barriers with a fast track for new businesses to expand commercial tax base and lessen the burden on the people; particularly as businesses now have the opportunity to flee the costly and unsafe Chicago market. We must develop a realistic model for addressing affordable housing needs that is in-line with the vision of our DuPage County communities while considering our seniors, teachers, first responders, disabled and veterans in that model. We must continue to the fight to deliver government services economically and with less waste, through IT improvements and other savings. Mental health has been a big factor before and now more due to the Pandemic, work with the Department of Health to evaluate efficiencies, improvements and potential modifications. Governing during the Pandemic provides me unique skills unlike other candidates. Finally, let’s seriously consider term limits to ensure knew ideas have an opportunity to be heard, and the good ones implemented.
