Education-As a public school teacher, I have seen the devastation that underfunding has caused from bulging class sizes to lack of mental health supports. In Minnesota, we know public education is fundamental to our democracy. By sustainably funding schools at the State Capitol, every student in Minnesota can get the education that they deserve. Climate Action-We are experiencing the effects of climate change. With periods of extreme flooding and extreme drought, crop losses and crop insurance rates are increasing. I commit to action to mitigate climate change. Workers’ Rights-I will stand up for the regular working people of Minnesota. We create and protect living wage jobs and raise up our middle class by supporting unions.
Voting is how we have a voice in government. I will ensure we preserve Minnesota’s long history of high voter turnout rates. We take pride in our secure and safe elections. We cannot and must not make it more difficult for people to vote. Voter suppression laws, such as requiring identification at the polls, disproportionately impact BIPOC voters. This is unacceptable. I will stand up for continuing our proud Minnesota heritage of high voter turnout and democratic election processes.
The murder of George Floyd brought to the forefront racial disparities in Minnesota. I will reach out to underrepresented people in our community and ask for their voice in how we can make Minnesota more inclusive. I support public safety funding that promotes community relationship building and holds police accountable for systemic racism within their departments. I will stand up for the protection of voting rights, affordable housing, mental health services, and other community supports.
We need to make Minnesota back into a state that supports its working class. The wealth gap has increased exponentially between the wealthiest Minnesotans and our middle class. This is not okay. We must restore an economy that works for all. I support paid child and family leave, affordable, quality health care for all, affordable child care, and student loan assistance programs. I support the creation and protection of living wage jobs through strengthening unions and raising the minimum wage.
Americans have suffered tremendous losses due to gun violence. We must act. If we can save one child’s life and one parent’s suffering, we must. Minnesotans support universal background checks, emergency protection orders, and victim support. The obstructionism and unwillingness to get the job done by the Senate majority is not what Minnesotans want in their government. Sadly, Senate Republicans have yet to allow these bills to be heard on the floor. Let’s put people over politics.
