If re-elected, I will continue leading on statewide efforts to establish healthcare as a right through the adoption of the Minnesota Health Plan, a plan for comprehensive, universal healthcare, free at the point of service, and separate from employment. I will also continue to move us toward an urgent, just transition to a clean energy economy while prioritizing and protecting our waters. Additionally, I will continue to work with our delegation and my colleagues to deliver on our local priorities– including bringing home Local Government Aid dollars and state investments that allow the City of Duluth to provide vital services and hold the line on property taxes.
We must fight all efforts to limit the right to vote. I strongly support efforts to promote greater voter participation and access, including protection of our Minnesota voting system of same-day registration, early voting, vote by mail, and re-enfranchisement for incarcerated and recently-incarcerated people. I will strongly oppose any efforts to curtail our voting rights.
To address Minnesota’s disgraceful racial disparities, we must tackle wealth inequality. Some things I support or have legislation toward include: a $15 min wage indexed to inflation; a cap on the ratio between lowest and highest paid workers in corporations; establishing rights to housing, healthcare, and a meaningful economic safety net including rights to paid parental, personal and sick leave; tuition-free public school pre-k through post-graduate; and fare-free public transportation.
We must tackle wealth inequality, which creates great instability in our economy and is now so extreme that it is a threat to our democracy. The rising inflation we have seen post-pandemic has been largely driven by corporate greed. As workers have rightly demanded better pay and benefits, many of our largest, wealthiest corporations have engaged in price-gouging to keep their record-breaking profits growing. We must reign in corporate greed and exploitation-based profiteering.
I will continue to vigorously support common sense gun control and safety legislation, including a ban on assault-style weapons, background checks, closing sale loopholes, and the implementation of a comprehensive gun buy-back program. I will work with community advocacy organizations like Moms Demand Action and Protect Minnesota to advance their priorities and bring their voices and work into the Capitol.
