My top three issues would be education, housing, and healthcare. Education is the gateway to opportunity. Therefore, all children deserve access to a world-class education, and I will fight to see that they do. Every Minnesotan deserves a place to call home. Therefore, I will support measures that will provide access to safe, affordable, and high-quality housing and that put home ownership within reach. Access to equitable and affordable healthcare is imperative.
To eliminate barriers to voting and ensure safe and secure elections I would support measures that make it easier to vote by mail. For example, establishing an automatic voter registration process that would create a permanent absentee ballot list. I would also eliminate a witness requirement for absentee voting. In addition, I would support enacting a statute to give the attorney general’s office of civil enforcement express authority to act swiftly to enforce Minnesota’s voter protection law
I would support (1) increased state investment for Family Visiting and Early Head Start for communities experiencing the greatest educational disparities (2) Eliminate policies in the health care system that reduce access to care and support measure that ensure parity for all health services including mental health, substance disorders and dental care; (3) reform the legal system to address disproportionately harmful impacts on communities of color; and (4) environmental justice measures.
Small businesses are the engines of the economy. Therefore, I would support initiatives that strengthen small businesses. I also support livable wages and strong unions. Achieving the proper balance of economic development and worker protection will lead to constraints on the economy that will blunt the rise of inflation.
I am passionate about reducing gun violence! As a result, I would support enacting (1) a statute requiring background checks on all gun sales, and (2) an Extreme Risk statute better known as a “Red Flag” law which would allow loved ones or law enforcement to petition a court for an order to prevent someone in crisis to access a gun. Gun violence not only endangers people physically, but it also traumatizes their family, friends, and members of the community at large.
