My top priorities are economic opportunities for all, a responsible government, and equitable education. Our community works hard to provide for their families, pay the bills, and plan for the future. Over half of Minnesotans live paycheck to paycheck, and inflation is rising. Minnesotans need access to broad economic opportunities. Public servants should genuinely serve us, not just their own political interests. The people of our community deserve representation that listens to their needs. I believe responsible government is about serving people. Finally, our education system shouldn’t cut corners to provide an individualized, world-class education from cradle to college. Our youth deserve the best learning environment we can provide.
Minnesota has the highest election participation rates in the United States, and we should be proud of that. However, we cannot allow extreme politicians to continue their attacks on free and fair elections in Minnesota. Instead, our laws should ensure that every Minnesota can access the ballot box, no matter their language, geographic area, or ability.
This is a vast topic that requires a holistic involving many areas of our law. One issue relevant to District 55A, is the issue of racist bullying in our schools. I wrote and passed the Beyond Bullying Bill in the House. I hope to continue these efforts to ensure every child has a welcoming and inclusive school. no matter their race.
Inflation is hitting all of us, and Minnesotans need access to broad economic opportunities. I will continue to support our efforts in the State House to slash costs for Minnesotans' childcare, student loans, and affordable housing through tax credits. Further, we will ensure that seniors can age in place. Lastly, I am committed to passing a responsible state budget that makes necessary investments in the core functions of government while prioritizing economic wellbeing.
I stand with the majority of responsible gun owners calling to expand universal criminal background checks to all gun transfers in our state. As suicide by gun and domestic violence rates rise, red flag laws will save Minnesotans' lives while respecting second amendment rights. Without infringement, we can enact common sense gun legislation that keeps guns out of the hands of those in crisis and those who pose a legitimate threat to themselves or others.
