First I’d like to establish trust & meaningful relationships with the other 4 commissioners serving Renville County. Without that, we will struggle to work together, & any goal will be difficult to accomplish. The same is true of the people living in my district. I want to earn their trust by being available, listening & applying their concerns & desires into my work as commissioner. Finally, one of my biggest lessons from the Peace Corps is you can not enter a new position believing you have all the answers. I will be a more effective commissioner if I start with a beginner’s mindset & prioritize learning rather than entering with the belief that I know everything and have all the solutions.
I want to keep an open mind & explore all opportunities that address affordable housing. But in the context of supply & demand, the solution appears simple. When demand is high, something must be done to increase supply. Therefore the solution is likely going to involve encouraging housing development in one form or another. We should explore funding sources at the state & federal level while also reducing barriers to new construction & encourage private developers to build in rural communities.
Personally I have never felt that Renville County has experienced widespread voter fraud. My dad has been an election judge in Cairo Township for 45 years and knows every resident. I would love to see greater voter participation and regularly see voter turnout over 80%. I think modernizing how the County interacts with residents is worth exploring. For example, a simple text message reminding people it’s election day could be a great place to start.
With my background in Psychology & having lived through the unique challenges that farmers & rural communities face, I am passionate about rural mental health and want to find solutions that get to its root causes. One of the biggest challenges rural communities face is isolation and a lack of opportunities for meaningful in-person connections. One example the County can help is by supporting the parks & outdoor recreation to encourage people to gather & enjoy nature.
Streets, highways, and rail transportation are all critical infrastructure. Our local economy would begin to suffer quickly if the County didn’t prioritize these essential services. And of course, we can’t understate the importance of Public Safety. Our Police Officers, Firefighters and First Responders all have a crucial role in assisting the public in times of need.

remove blighted properties in county and encourage redevelopment
Our election officials are all well trained in Renville County. We know our voters by keeping townships with their own election polling places.
Keeping quality employees to reach out to these individuals. Access to healthcare services locally and not having to drive further distances for these services.
Safety (sheriff's office) is a priority as well as health care would be priorities in Renville County.
