For the past eight years I have been fortunate to represent the citizens of District 2 of Wabasha County as well as the County as a whole. My three main priorities upon re-election would be to continue to ensure that Wabasha County citizens are taxed to the minimum extent necessary, to continue to have a well-funded and maintained transportation system, and to continue to support law enforcement activities to keep our communities safe. To those ends, during my tenure the County has had one of the lowest year-over-tax levies in the State, has pumped million into our transportation system, and has ensured that our law enforcement agency has had the funding necessary to protect our communities.
Some of the continued efforts that I would support is to work with our various housing agencies and cities to find for creative opportunities, like public / private partnerships, to support local housing that is vital to the success of our businesses and the growth of our communities. Additionally, I would continue to advocate for limited taxation to help ensure that Wabasha County is an affordable place to live for our current and future residents.
Ensuring that all eligible voters can participate in elections requires balancing the integrity of the electoral process and providing reasonable access to voters. As your County Commissioner I would seek to complement these two principles rather than view them as mutually exclusive. I will strive to make sure that any restrictions on the right to participate in the voting process is proportional to the need to maintain election integrity based on objective and reasonable criteria.
The biggest barrier regarding mental health and social services within Wabasha County is providing reasonable access to those services. While larger communities may have multiple service providers, smaller communities need to find creative ways to provide access to those services. Wabasha County has made strides to provide services, when possible, directly to the recipient in their homes. Where specialized services are necessary telehealth has proven to be possible solution as well.
As your County Commissioner I will continue to advocate for an appropriately funded transportation system and to support our community and the veterans. Our citizens and businesses deserve to have well maintained roads. Similarly, our veterans earned our support for the sacrifices they have made for our Country and Community. As your Commissioner I will help guarantee that those services will always remain funded in a fiscally responsible manner.
