Rochester City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I believe that my extensive experience in public service – 4 years as Rochester’s Mayor and nearly 20 years in other elected offices -- makes me the best choice to lead the city as we plan for our future. I have led our city in good times and in tough times, providing the sensible and steady leadership we need to continue moving forward together. I’m proud of what we have accomplished as a community and the goals we are setting. To that end I have sought out grants and training opportunities for our city staff to ‘up our game’ through good governance, data use and collaboration. My collaborative approach to problem-solving and my dedication to respecting all voices in our community will allow me to continue being an effective leader.
•Effective, equitable city services with public safety as key to maintain a high quality of life for all who live here •Economic stability for community members and businesses to help our city grow all of its residents prosper and remain resilient •Smart, sustainable city development and multiple transit to help our city conserve resources, increase renewable sources, reduce energy costs, improve convenience and create a healthy environment for future generations
Building strong connections and trust between law enforcement and community members is vital. Programs like Safe City Nights, CERTS, and Neighborhood Night Out have been implemented to do just that. Measures to improve public safety such as diversifying the police force, independent investigations to review complaints, officer wellness programs, embedded social workers make a real difference. I regularly meet with diverse groups and the Youth Council to gain perspective and address concerns.
