I’m a parent who has navigated children through District 206 classrooms from Early Childhood Family Education into high school. Having worked as a paraprofessional, I have a unique perspective as an employee and a parent. I’ve been an active volunteer in my district, starting as a member of the Early Childhood Advisory Board, eventually serving as its President. I’ve volunteered in classrooms, on referendum campaigns and served on the Carlos Elementary PAC. I understand quality schools provide a home-grown work force and the next generation of innovators, who will create jobs in our community. For the past year, I have organized and informed parents through Parents United 206. I will continue to build these relationships as a board member.
Quality education, school safety and parental rights are my top three priorities. Math, reading and science are core knowledge areas, where all students need to reach their full potential. School safety includes providing an environment where students are physically safe. Ensuring a safe mental health environment is also necessary. Current climates at our schools are negatively impacting the mental health of students. Parental rights is a growing concern. I intend to preserve these rights.
Ensuring physical safety in our schools includes making sure protocols are being followed and that our district is using the most current technology to support security. Mental Health safety entails stopping bullying and disruptive behaviors. Negative behaviors take away from classroom learning and cause mental stress for students and teachers. Partnering with teachers and staff to eliminate the teaching of ideologies that attack the mental health of our children is a high priority.
