I believe that Spring Valley is a good community to live in. However I want to see that we move forward to become a great community to visit and live in. I have spent nearly 20 years volunteering in various positions in Spring Valley. In every position I have pushed to take things from good to great. I believe this could also be done in a broader sense in Spring Valley. Making sure that the communities needs are met is a high priority for me. Every household is different. Understanding what they need, and meeting that need is extremely important.
People are my number one priority. #1 - Affordable housing. The average household income is too far behind the average housing median. #2 - Infrastructure improvements. As an example, I have heard from some residents that their drinking water smells and in some cases are cloudy/brown. #3 - Increase well-paying employment. It is incredibly hard for low income families to live off of minimum wage jobs. Encouraging new businesses provides opportunities for many of our residents.
Our Deputies/Firefighters/EMS do a good job of protecting our community. However, we need to make sure they have current tools and training to continue to keep our community safe. I feel we as a community need to do a better job of looking out for each other. We should make a point to get to know our neighbors, being a kind and considerate neighbor can go a long way. We also need better lit streets, trails, and less traffic areas. Increased visibility in areas would benefit our city in many ways
