Ensuring safe streets for everyone is the biggest challenge our community faces. That includes reducing crime and increasing bicyclist and pedestrian safety. I was a policing reform advocate and policy analyst for years on both the state and federal level, drafting policies and working with law enforcement and communities to pursue effective, data-driven solutions. I will bring my whole toolbox of strategies to deter crime and reduce recidivism to this position when I speak to Metropolitan Police Department as a Commissioner. I have the policy expertise and understanding of administrative structures to help make MPD more responsive to our neighborhood's needs.

Columbia Heights is a hot spot for bicyclist and pedestrian accidents according to MPD and DDOT data. These accidents can be traumatic, life-altering and at worst, deadly. As your ANC, I will advocate for common-sense changes that save lives, like raised pedestrian crosswalks and additional infrastructure changes.
I will continue to organize and participate in community cleanups, which have been fun and a great way to connect with my neighbors. As ANC, I'll hold regular "office hours" at local businesses. Most importantly, I'll knock on the doors of new and old residents alike to hear their concerns and educate them on the unique role of ANC's in their neighborhood.
I wish you would have asked me what my neighbors told me are their priorities for our area and what's my favorite bar in Columbia Heights. The answers to the first question would be: promoting bicyclist and pedestrian safety, reducing crime, cleaning up the alleyways, and getting rid of the rats - all of which I will prioritize as ANC. And the answer to the second is Wonderland.
Qualifications Lifelong resident of Ward 1, attending Harrison Elementary, BannekerJr. High and Cardozo High Schools; 22 years as Ward 1 ANC Commissioner; retired DC public administrator; Advisor to the DC Department of For Hire Vehicles; 2-term member of Ward 1 Redistricting Committee; instrumental in development of 14th Street Columbia Heights business plan while Chair of ANC1A.
Gun violence and youth crime. I plan to continue to work with MPD, our Ward 1 ANC Commissioners, our Councilmembers, community groups, violence interrupters and DC Agencies who provide job opportunities and wrap-around services to our residents. As a former elected Ward 1 School Board Member, lend my support for returning vocational education for our high school students to offer alternatives to dead-end entry-level jobs.
I will continue to engage with our residents through our ANC Committees and monthly ANC meetings, interpersonal relationships, attendance both virtually and in person at community meetings and events, electronic meetings and information sharing through our ANC website and newsletters. Also posting on local businesses bulletin boards. Multilingual translations are available.
What are the impacts of bus/bike only lanes on traffic congestion, reduction of residential parking and access to one's home for residents (especially seniors, the disabled and families with children) of Columbia Heights?
