The most important issue facing any Single Memeber District is people struggling to stay alive through the financial crisis of not being able to pay our rents and taxes going up faster than income for homeowners. There is a housing shortage yet plenty of new development but we are not the faces wanted in these new complexes. The government should handle the application process for new housing perspectives to make sure low-income and people with government assistance are able to live in these places. Once new homes are ready to be leased, people are told we don’t have any affordable housing here or no more available apartments. Allow people who inquire about this type of housing to contact the government agency in charge of homes and apartments and set-asides. Be able to see some document that is a true statement of new homes availability information.
I will meet the residents where they elect me to meet them. It is better for the residents of 1C05 to be in a place they feel safe and secure when we meet. Meeting residents and those who work frequently in 1C05 at different times of the day a couple of times a month to make myself more available to them. Also, I like meeting places that can accommodate many residents with interpreters for everyone's understanding. An email specifically dedicated to residents in their native languages at least Spanish, Farsi, and English. Zoom meetings are good and please don't forget community bulletin boards outdoors and inside our places of business. Don't forget sick and shut-ins Neighborhood Block Captains that know their blocks and community, who live there who need someone to check in on them and to let them know the good news in 1C05. I like walking and I can also pass out our newsletters to our block captains and others who like that kind of exercise.
Who is the architect of the Encampment who designed the program to give people tents to live on hot or cold cement or dirt and then without warning or notice to the encampment residents, someone comes and takes away their abode, housing, homes, and all that they have, leaving those residents stranded? Our government must have a better accountability system over the programs, Organizations, Associations, Churches, Synagogues, Temples, Masjids, Places, or Persons that are funded by the government and others to see that all people in 1C05 are accommodated. Living in housing even if it means DC has facilities and homes, apartments, hotels, and schools not being used which can be used as good housing with maintenance services for the upkeep of the homes and people who would help and assist our vulnerable residents with skills in how to maintain their homes with pride to keep them and this community flourishing.
Qualifications Licensed Design Professional which gives special knowledge concerning our Built Environment & Public Works Projects; Long time DC Resident & activist for mattes that affect us all including Environmental Sustainability, Criminal Justice Reform including Marijuana legalization, Labor Rights including promotion of Unions & a Living Wage, Human/Civil Rights including LGBTQ & Immigration Rights, Women's rights including Reproductive Rights; Passionate Anti-War Protestor. I am a member of DSA and have Campaigned for many local Candidates including Ward 4 Council Member Janeese Lewis George. UPDATES: I am the recent founder of the 2920 Ontario Blighted Property Action Group the seeks to re-purpose neglected properties so that they serve the Community in a positive useful way; Endorsed by Greater Greater Washington.
Blighted underutilized properties and infrastructure are the biggest issue in 1C05 and the surrounding SMDs. If elected, I will get together with Commissioners in adjacent SMDs to discuss areas that could be better cared for and used to benefit us all and how we will accomplish that goal. I understand that we are individually allowed to write resolutions to be voted on by the City Council which could be an effective tool in addition to alerting the residents of 1C to get them onboard and involved with the cause to use to the fullest what we already have in place in our neighborhoods. Please see my Campaign Facebook Page for photos and brief description of a particular property of concern. I will be posting others in the near future.
I will be sending out weekly 1C05 ANC Update e-mails to keep my Neighbors informed about matters the ANC is focusing on and any events, happenings and meetings they may want to attend. I will be attending community events such as Adams Morgan Day and connecting with Residents. I will be keeping my Campaign Facebook Page active and encourage respectful feedback and interaction on the items that I post. The idea of hosting Town Hall meetings at various residential and community buildings in 1C05 is also of great interest to me.
The Planet that sustains us all whether we live in 1C05, 06, 07, DC, Boston, NY, Idaho, California, USA, Pakistan, France, etc. is in need of much much more attention from everyone. It is life itself. So, please visit my Page to see some ideas I have in the research stages that will go along with some DC wide initiatives especially the bus and bike route expansions. I would also like to discuss more concerning mental health, homelessness, affordable housing AND commercial space with my neighbors. Small Businesses have just as much right to success in our Community as Starbucks and McDonalds. Last but not least, I am thrilled that this Voter Guide is being shared with the Incarcerated Community and that they have the opportunity to vote. They are my neighbors as well and should have a seat at the table. Similarly, I would like to explore the possibility of Prison to Work programs where our businesses work with Prisoners so they will have a way forward once they are released.
