Información Biográfica

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Is there a question you wish we had asked? If so, what is the question and how would you answer it?

Qualifications I am a listener and a problem solver. I have 35 years of experience in software development of complex systems. The central theme of such work is asking questions, listening to what people want, and building practical consensus. I intend to bring these skills to bear on neighborhood issues such as pedestrian safety, neighborhood walkability, and improving infrastructure. I will seek to balance the desires of residents and the needs of local businesses, while honoring the historic neighborhood in which we live.
One important issue facing our single member district is pedestrian safety and traffic. The cross streets between Connecticut and Wisconsin Avenues are narrow and already carry a significant amount of traffic, sometimes at excessive speeds. Moreover, the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) has a significant development project on Connecticut Avenue to add bikes lanes as well as other changes, which may have spillover effects of increasing traffic on the cross streets. As ANC Commissioner, I will listen to neighbor’s concerns and ideas, and I will tirelessly advocate with DDOT to address ongoing pedestrian safety issues.
I will plan meetings with neighbors regularly and reach out to others to hear their views.
The aging infrastructure in our district is another important issue. The pipes under our streets were laid 100+ years ago and many are failing. These old terra cotta pipes are vulnerable to decay, incursion by roots, and collapse, causing water to back up in yards and homes. Our neighborhood has experienced sewage backing up into homes during large storms. Sewage backups are a major health hazard and are expensive and time consuming to remediate. I will work with DC Water and DDOT and encourage them to improve this critical infrastructure.
