While we need more housing, particularly on the commercial corridors, there is currently a lack of school capacity to accommodate the projected increase in population. In addition, more focus should be placed on mass transit, such as high-speed bus service on Connecticut and Wisconsin Avenues. While these are issues beyond the remit of any one Commissioner, and will require that the ANC work with the Mayor and DC Council, there are a range of actions the ANC may take, by passing Resolutions and other means, to focus attention on such issues. On a day-to-day level, there are many local issues that the ANC can address directly, or at least in coordination and consultation with the relevant DC agency, such as the repair of sidewalks, and safer conditions for pedestrians and cyclists on city streets.
I engage on a daily basis already with residents. For over 13 years, I have served as an Officer of the Woodley Park Community association, both as Treasurer, and currently as Secretary. In this capacity, I helped sponsor Ward 3 DC Council debates, addressed permitting issues, and worked with others on issues relating to the Marriott development site.

I represent Ward 3 on the DC Bicycle Advisory Committee and was recently elected President pro tem, where I engage with the Police Department, DDOT and other DC agencies. I am also part of a community effort to obtain a Connecticut Avenue protected bike lane, that the Mayor and DC Council has now funded.

As a Commissioner, I will be available to my constituents on issues big and small, from local school expansion to repair of local sidewalks and emptying of trash bins that sometimes overflow. My experience working with DC agencies will allow me to be effective on such local matters to get things done quickly.
Why do you think you are the right person to serve as an ANC commissioner for your SMD?

I have proven experience in my community, working on the WPCA, the DC Bicycle Advisory Council, and the ANC3C Transportation Committee. As an example of my effectiveness, I recently led an effort of local residents to obtain a DDOT commitment to place a speed hump on a local street where traffic was endangering children on an adjacent playground.

In my professional career, I have worked as an attorney and an economist at the Securities and Exchange Commission, and U.S. Treasury. I am currently a supervisory attorney at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. While my work responsibilities are different from the role I would play on the ANC, I hope to use my economic and legal background to assist on local issues.
Qualifications 30 year resident of DC, 12 in Woodley Park. Active in local issues to make our schools better, streets safer, and city more inclusive and prosperous.

Making our streets safer for everyone, especially pedestrians and cyclists is an important issue. Strongly support the renovation of Connecticut Avenue to slow traffic, provide safer pedestrian crossings, and offer cyclists a safe way to ride. We should be managing and calming traffic better throughout the neighborhood.
I love walking around and chatting with neighbors. I'll knock on every door in the campaign and hope to build a contact list for future communication. I plan to provide a regular email update on ANC issues and questions and create a simple website. I'm an active twitter user. I plan to engage with the parent associations at the 2 public schools and 3 private schools in my district.
