Información Biográfica

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Is there a question you wish we had asked? If so, what is the question and how would you answer it?

Qualifications Former state legislator and neighborhood representative. A proven track record of consensus building through decades of public service. I am currently and enforcement attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission and live in Chevy Chase with my wife and two school aged children.
The execution of the Chevy Chase Area Plan. I intend to create consensus in the neighborhood regarding execution of the CCAP and the details of the development within the Plan area. What the developers can and cannot do on Connecticut Avenue and in the neighborhood is of paramount importance.

In addition, public safety, especially pedestrian and bike safety is of paramount importance.
I intend to use all resources available to reach out to my neighbors, including email, telephone, social media, and walking door to door, to keep everyone informed and engaged. There is nothing more important than keeping people informed and solicit their input on development issues in the neighborhood.
What trait is most important to be a successful ANC member? Listen carefully! Do not impose your political views on your neighbors. Always try and achieve consensus.

Our ANC has a lot of decisions to make in the coming months and years. It is vital that the community know and understand what is going on, what decisions will be made, and when their voices need to be heard. I will always listen to my constituents and solicit their input. We can do a better job of engaging everyone in the ANC and making the work of the ANC more relevant to our citizens. If I am on the ANC I will work to make sure that everyone is involved as much as possible. There are several ways we can do this. Announcing meetings more widely, increasing meeting signage, having tighter meeting times, generating community buy-in, weighing in on important city wide issues, and finally listening to and celebrating our citizens will help generate energy around the ANC.
I may be the only ANC representative that lives in an apartment on ANC 3/4G. Apartment folks are often overlooked. I will always work to include them in ANC work. I am also a career educator who often works alongside and connects with students, parents, fellow teachers, and administrators--a wide group of people with varying interests. I was born and raised in this ANC, have been involved in various community efforts, and love hearing from and talking to neighbors. Listening to neighbors will be a priority during my ANC tenure.
Washington D.C. is so often divided between ANCs, neighborhoods, wards, and quadrants that we forget we are part of a whole. I also believe strongly in DC Statehood. If elected I will always work to include ANC 3/4G's work as part of our larger city and ideally the future 51st State. As a teacher there is no better investment in the good of our shared city, our state, than the education of our young people. Aside from trying to grow involvement in the work of the ANC, I will always fight for DC students, schools, and teachers in our area and across the city. The role of just one smd is small. Even here the call for city wide cohesion, education advocacy, and striving to become the 51st State will be an essential part of my tenure.
