Información Biográfica

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Is there a question you wish we had asked? If so, what is the question and how would you answer it?

Qualifications Born and raised in the area, I have a history of working with the community and our elected officials to get things done.

Single Member District 4B07 is unique in that it is geographically distributed and contains three neighborhoods (Takoma, Manor Park, and Lamond) which are divided by industrial/commercial space. However, one issue that I hear about consistently from neighbors in all three neighborhoods is that of the safety of our roads. I’ve spoken with many neighbors who concerned that not enough is being done to enforce our traffic laws, to implement traffic calming measures, and to remove dangerous drivers from our roads. To address this issue, I intend to work with the whole Commission, various DC agencies (including DDOT), and our Councilmember’s office to implement more traffic studies – with the end goal of implementing more traffic calming measures. I also intend to work closely with MPD to ensure that we see stepped up enforcement of traffic laws. And finally, I'd like to work with the Commission and the Council to hold drivers accountable and subject to the laws that DC has in place.
Having served on multiple ANC committees in the past and having worked with several ANC 4B commissioners on various issues, I’ve found that the commissioners who are successful engage with their constituent using multiple communications channels. This includes being active on social media, having a regular newsletter, holding office hours, and having regular in-person meetings with the community (both at the SMD level and 1:1). There is also a fair amount of work involved in educating constituents on the role of ANC. I believe that to be an excellent ANC commissioner you need to be intimately familiar with your SMD, the entire Commission area, and the Ward. Effective Commissioners can turn the concerns of their constituents into resolutions, they can mediate problems, and they can navigate numerous DC agencies in order to get support. As ANC commissioner I intend to act as both an educator and as someone who can execute.
I wish you asked “Why should the residents of ANC 4B vote for you”. If I was asked that, my response would be: The residents of ANC 4B07 should vote for me because of my personal reputation and my experience working within our community. I have been involved in ANC 4B for many years, both leading a non-profit that is a DPR “Friends of” group, Chairing an ANC Committee (Education and Libraries), and serving on two ANC Committees (Recreation, Community safety and Support). I have a history of working well with many ANC 4B commissioners – both past and present – and have been endorsed by the former Ward 4 Councilmember as well as a Ward 4 Committeeman. Additionally, I led a major project in ANC 4B (spearheading the Takoma Dog Park) that took almost 6 years of engaging with the community, holding meetings, working with various DC agencies, working with the Councilmember’s office, and ultimately seeing that project to completion.
