Geograpghically, the newly created ANC 4E05 is relatively small. And as this is a newly formed SMD I'll need to survey residents in an effort to determine if there is a concensus on a single most important issue. However, my personal choice for such an issue is gentrification and its impact on our communities. I've noted conflicts during my ANC service between longtime and newer residents. Many of those conflicts have been exacerbated by implicit biases and a lack of understanding among and between people. I believe that many misunderstandings that cause confusion can be resolved or avoided by better communication and personal interaction. There is also more we share in common than that which divides us. I'll work to bring people together and seek opportunities for the ANC to offer implicit bias training.
As 4E is a newly formed commission we'll need to establish a business office which will also be promoted to the community. If elected I'll coordinate with my commission colleagues to engage residents throughout 4E. I'll send mailings to introduce the new 4E commission to residents and notify them of meetings and any opportunities for committee service.
I wish a question had been asked about composition of the newly formed 4E including elements of Crestwood and Sixteenth Street Heights. There will be growing pains and adjustments to many of the boundary changes of redistricting. This will be particularly challenging for other areas of the city where ward boundaries have shifted. My observation has been that Crestwood and Sixteenth Street Heights have each been focused on their communities. The integration will necessitate commissioners representing both to work in tandem for the betterment of each neighborhood. If elected, I'm committed to working constructively with my Crestwood colleagues on behalf of the broader community.
