Based on feedback from constituents and my own observations, the most important issue facing my SMD is street safety. As commissioner, I continue to work with DDOT to highlight resident concerns and push for traffic calming measures on our streets that include speed bumps, raised cross walks, bike lanes, and other traffic calming measures to protect pedestrians, bicyclists, and people taking transit. As one example, neighbors living along C St. (15th to 11th St) have endured frequent crashes and traffic safety concerns for years. Earlier this year, I went door to door to solicit feedback about concerns and then organized a community walk to provide an opportunity for neighbors to share those concerns with DDOT. Recently, DDOT issued a Notice of Intent indicating plans to implement traffic calming measures along this corridor. If re-elected, I will continue to work with community residents and DDOT to explore options to further improve street safety throughout the community.
I will continue working to improve communications and to help make residents aware of how and when they can weigh in on proposed actions and decisions that could impact the quality of life in our community. Early on, I created a google group that I use to share periodic updates and encourage people to reach out to me. I also post information to Next Door, Facebook, and Twitter. I also developed a spreadsheet which includes every address in my SMD. As I meet people, I add them to my list. It helps me to track individual issues, as well as those people who may need additional outreach because they are not connected to email / social media. My goal is to make it easy for people to reach me and engage in issues that are important to them. The ANC only hears from a fraction of people in our community. As such, we need to ensure that our decisions and deliberations are made on behalf of all constituents, including those that are not contributing or unable to contribute during discussions.
“Why are you running?” I’m running for re-election because I would like to continue working to address some of the key challenges facing our community, especially in the area of street safety.

The concerns I hear most often from my constituents relate to street safety. Neighbors send me videos and photos that illustrate dangerous driving behavior in our community -- cars running through stop signs, speeding, passing cars using bike/bus lanes, and the like.

Street safety is a priority issue for me. There have been multiple crashes in my SMD community over the past two years. Across the District, 40 people were killed in crashes last year, which is the highest number of fatalities since 2007.

If re-elected, I will continue working with DDOT to highlight constituent concerns and to find solutions that will further improve street safety in our community. I’ve lived in this neighborhood since 2007 and would like to do my part to help make our streets safer for everyone.
