Like most the city, public safety is the most important issues in my SMD. My constituents work hard to provide for their families and shouldn’t have worry about their homes and vehicles being broken into. It’s imperative that we put pressure on the MPD to increase area patrols as a crime deterrent. In addition to crime, my constituents are also concerned about traffic safety. Oftentimes, vehicles travel down residential streets at high rates of speed which has led to destruction of property. We reside in a single-family residential community where young children ride bikes, walk their pets, and play basketball in the alleys behind their homes. We need DDOT to install safety measures such as red-light cameras, speed bumps and speed cameras in high-volume areas of the SMD to avoid the death of a pedestrian.
Since launching my campaign, I have attended countless community events and walked through the SMD surveying and introducing myself to residents. I’ve spent time educating residents who were unaware of the ANC and shared ways for them get involved. As Commissioner, I plan to continue to broaden my footprint through the distribution of a monthly newsletter where I will share information regarding existing programming and resources. I plan to attend monthly ANC and respective community-based meetings. I also plan to host quarterly listening sessions to gage the pulse of my constituents to bring government closer to the people, and to bring the people closer to government.
I wished you would have asked, “what are your long-term goals?” For me, I do not have political aspirations beyond Commissioner. I am concerned about the current state of the District of Columbia. However, at the present time, I only have the time and resources to focus on the issues that directly impact the constituents of ANC 7B04. But, I am more than willing to lend my voice and platform—in a limited capacity—to increase the quality of live for all of the District's residents.
