Columbus City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I am a life-long resident and retired business owner (Trout Air) in the City of Columbus. I have served as Mayor of Columbus since 2019, after 10 years on the Columbus Planning & Zoning Commission. I’m committed to visionary growth, encouraging development that has low impact to our residents, while bringing substantial tax revenue to Columbus — so that we can continue to enjoy and afford our rural atmosphere. I am proud that during my 1st term I created monthly Community Workshops which invite all residents to engage directly with the Planning Commission and City Council to discuss new projects that affect our residents and businesses. I feel strongly that these workshops are an effective way to create mindful progress in our community.
My priorities are: 1. Preserving the rural character and peaceful atmosphere of our City with planning that values and considers residents’ input. 2. Keeping our City taxes under control by spending wisely and planning for our future needs. 3. Continuing to foster our business district with development that boosts commercial tax revenues while providing value and amenities to our residents.
During the past 4 years as Mayor, the City has had to deal with several issues of safety—from involving the County in doing studies on dangerous intersections, to reducing speed on residential roads, and keeping City Hall open during COVID when the severity of the pandemic was unknown. Recently, we have partnered with our surrounding communities in securing two additional fire trucks and getting dedicated officers to patrol our community on a daily basis.
