Guía de Votantes

Ironton City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I am the best candidate for mayor because I care about the entire spectrum of issues facing us now and in the future. I will involve as many residents as possible in optimizing our town now, as well as laying the foundation for a place we can be proud to call home in decades to come. I vow to be transparent. I will ensure that the city improves communication on its agenda and upcoming issues. I am a lifelong learner. My time in graduate school taught me to carefully research problems before making decisions. I also know when to seek the help of an expert. I became a healthcare provider because I truly care for people. I will continue that same dedication to excellence in caring for the people of Ironton as their mayor.
My top priority is proper orientation and training of all council members. Currently there is no requirement for training or standard for educating the mayor or members of the council. This is dangerous, and needs to change immediately. Next is a new comprehensive plan for the city that addresses current needs, maintaining infrastructure, and plans for growth/ improvement. Third, we need a committee dedicated to economic development/safe housing.
The Deerwood police force currently does a wonderful job patrolling. I would continue that relationship. We need to focus on maintenance of infrastructure/utilities and work to improve sidewalks in some critical areas. There should also be a policy for maintaining/licensing long term rental properties to ensure that people have a safe place to live.
