Why are you the best candidate for this position? (750 characters)

If elected, what will your top three priorities be and why? (500 characters)

How will you work with your community to promote public safety in our neighborhoods? (500 characters)

I believe my background serving as both a council member and Mayor, my 28 years of working in both the nonprofit and governmental sectors, and being co-owner of a small business in Moorhead make me the best candidate for Mayor of Moorhead. I have a good grasp of the roles of council member and Mayor, which is vitally important, and I have developed an excellent understanding of how various governmental entities collaborate among one another and with businesses and nonprofits in our community. Collaboration and relationship building is key to successful outcomes for our community. These are two important skills I have developed in my professional career, and I have been able to utilize those skills leading Moorhead for the last 20 months.
My top 3 priorities are: (1) Public Safety; (2) Economic Development; and (3) Infrastructure Issues. Public Safety: Recruitment and retention of local law enforcement is going to be critical to ensuring safety of our community and one I have pledged to work on tirelessly. (2) Economic Development: A main area of focus is our downtown where there is great potential to grow our business community. (3) Infrastructure: Determining strategies to fix older areas in addition to creating new ones
Public safety is a growing issue in the metro area. Helping citizens feel safe in their neighborhoods can be addressed in a multitude of ways, such a collaborations between the law enforcement, city community development staff, and nonprofit organizations; however, most citizens would like to see increased visibility of law enforcement. This can be done through more community policing ; however, in order to do this, we must have a fully staffed law enforcement department, which is a priority.
