School board members oversee the care, management, and control of schools within the district. This includes hiring, firing, and overseeing superintendents, who manage the day-to-day affairs of the district. They also set budgets and policies that affect students in classes and other activities that affect the students’ wellbeing and education.

I am David Marty, an incumbent ISD318 School Board member. I have been a teacher, a community leader (Reif Center) and a volunteer. My wife, Sharon, has been an elementary teacher at ISD318 for over 30 years and is currently a regular substitute. I’ve spent hundreds of hours in board trainings, including courses on school budgeting, community relations, advocacy, contract negotiations, officer training, etc. I seek best practices to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. I promote and support student excellence in our schools. I continuously help negotiate fair and equitable contracts with various units. But primarily, I have sought to create a safe and supportive environment in which all students can succeed.
• My top priority is to ensure a safe, supportive and creative environment at ISD318 in which ALL students can and do safely succeed. • A second top priority is to create a balanced budget that allows 318 to provide an optimal learning experience for all. This includes finding new funding. • Another top priority is to ensure that all staff are properly supported and recognized in our joint efforts to protect and lead all students to success, regardless of the challenges and limitations they mig
Many protocols and plans are already in place for our students and staff to operate safely in the school environment. We have policies and practices for buses, playgrounds, hallways and classroom, etc. Paraprofessionals and receive specific training to help maintain and enforce a safe learning environment. We maintain open communications (e.g., Labor Management Committees) to identify areas for improvement. Our Safety Resource Officers are a part of the network.
