Because I love kids, our community and our school here in Canby. My husband and I have had 9 kids through (and still going through) our schools here at Canby. I know many families and because my kids tell me what's going on (good or bad) at our schools, I know what I'd like to help fix and give suggestions for.
One, our local referendum and why I'm for it. We need to keep our school up to date and growing like the schools around us. We need to do some serious updating and I like the fact that its starting with the athletic fields. In the updating that I think our school needs, we need to update our curriculum. We have had the same class offerings as when my 25-year-old was in school. Our kids need more class choices. Then, I really believe we need more follow through on discipline.
Gosh, where does this need to start? At home. In a perfect world, the school appointed social worker should be bringing in the parents as well and holding them just as accountable. And maybe they need suggested guidance on how to parent a kid in trouble, family counseling, etc. There's no shame in that. I believe there needs to be an outlet in schools for kids to help deal with this. Let's make school a safe haven & someplace they love. We need more focus on groups other than sports too.
