The mayor should have a strong bond to Champlin. My husband David and I chose Champlin 22 years ago as the best place to raise our 3 kids. I have volunteered in their schools, been their Girl Scout Leader and managed their sports teams. I have grown my law practice here and made lifelong friends. The mayor needs to be a strong competent leader. I was the president of my HOA and am on the board of a large nonprofit. I have the skills needed to provide oversight, create consensus through trust, respect and accountability, and to create partnerships that will benefit our city. The mayor represents ALL residents. With no personal agenda or desire for self-promotion, I will meet people where they are and be responsive to their needs and wants.
First and foremost, we need to feel and be safe, so I will reach out to police and residents to determine if we are staffed appropriately for our current population and crime climate. Second, to promote community participation and belongingness, I will begin Meet the Mayor events to shine a light on local businesses and to meet residents where they are. Third, to ensure good governance, I will build relationships with city staff and councilmembers that are based on mutual trust and respect.
I will meet residents where they are to build trust by making them feel heard and being responsive to their concerns. I will attend Night to Unite events, champion our Neighborhood Watch program and look for innovative ways to connect our community with law enforcement in non-threatening ways. I will use Champlin‘s website, newsletter and social media to educate residents on crime prevention measures. Finally, I will support our police department’s expanded use of an embedded social worker.
