I have been an Orrock Township resident for more than 25 years and have seen the town grow and change. For the past four years I’ve been township treasurer and have helped the board manage finances so as to keep taxes stable. Most of my professional life has been devoted to non-partisan public service, first with the Minnesota Historical Society and then with the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board. My experience will help Orrock remain a thriving, welcoming, well-run, and fiscally sound community. I am a person who seeks out advice and builds coalitions. I believe in uniting rather than dividing. If elected, I will work to reach consensus on the big issues the board will face over the next years, including the need for a new town hall.
Orrock has some big projects coming up over the next decade, including a new town hall and rebuilding some of our oldest roads. My first priority is to manage resources so that we can undertake those projects without increasing individuals’ taxes. Second, we need to build more citizen involvement into town operations. I would like to see citizen input into every major decision the board makes. Finally, we need to continue our outreach so that citizens are confident in actions the board takes.
As treasurer, I have advised and guided the board to budgets that provide for current and future needs while keeping individuals’ township tax burden stable. This allows residents to plan and budget, fostering financial stability in their homes. Social stability at the township level is fostered by making sure the township sticks to township business: roads, fire protection, and safe elections. I don’t support the township taking positions on partisan issues that only serve to divide people.
