If elected, what will your top three priorities be and why? (500 characters)

How will you work with staff and teachers to promote safety in our schools? (500 characters)

As a stay-at-home dad, children’s author, and firefighter I bring a unique perspective to the board. If elected I will be laser-focused on the following issues: creating safe schools, supporting students’ mental health, and collaborative leadership. For our board to truly excel we must constantly review our policies to ensure they are moving us in the right direction. I will put in the hard work to update policies I feel are outdated, and I will make sure the district implements our policies appropriately. Serving on the board a huge responsibility. I will approach my work with a sense of gratitude for the community’s trust, a deep passion for education, and most of all a drive to do what is best for our district and our children.
My priorities are Supporting Student Mental Health, Creating Safe Schools, and Leading Collaboratively. The first two go hand in hand. By creating better systems to support students’ mental health we will reduce behavioral issues, increase academic performance, and create a safer and more uplifting environment for all. Collaborative leadership is a critical part of a well-functioning board. We must hear from all the voices in our community to be able to create and implement effective policies.
I will draw on my experience and perspective as a firefighter to continually seek improvements and innovations in our schools’ safety. If elected I will push for our schools to embrace the Know the Signs training program created by the Sandy Hook Promise organization. This training teaches staff and students how to recognize signs of impending violence and provides strategies to stop it before it happens. I will also work to create enhanced training opportunities for our first responders.
