I love NLS. We have a strong educational system which evokes Wildcat pride. I served as the Middle School Principal for 14 years. Personally, NLS has given me so much; I cherished relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members. Now it is time to give back. What better way to give back than to support staff, students, parents, and the community?

For the last 24 years, I have served as an educator- I have been a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal and now an Assistant Professor educating future leaders. Education is my passion. I understand education and how important it is to have elected officials who support the educational community.
We have a strong school community and I believe we are on the right course for the future. In planning for the future, I believe we will need to consider the following: continuation of hiring excellent staff, improvements to infrastructure, and maintaining financial stability. I believe with keeping these priorities in mind this will also enhance the student experience and provide additional learning opportunities.

We need to continue to invest in mental health and intervention support systems for our students. Over the years, we have added additional staff to support the needs of students, but we still need more.

Throughout the years, we have made substantial improvements to security. We have added secure entrances and additional security cameras. However, our research must continue. We must continue to research best practices and also seek input from staff that would promote safety.

I grew up in the NL-S area, I am a passionate advocate for public education, I was a college professor, I have served on the board for four years, and both of my children attend NL-S. I have a passion for contributing to the continued excellence of our schools, and I believe that serving our community on the school board is the best way I can do that.

My experiences in education have strengthened my belief that all students should leave NL-S ready to contribute to civic life and excel in the fields they choose to tackle. I am a strong advocate of the district's vision statement: inspire every student, every day. No matter what path a student follows, it is our responsibility to ensure that every student has the tools necessary to succeed.
NL-S does not need any radical changes. It needs strong stewards to guide it so that it remains as good when my daughter graduates in 2034 as it was when I graduated in 2004 and when my dad graduated in 1974. With the voter-approved levy now in place, my priorities are to maximize the impact of those funds on student success. This includes re-investment in staff and training, expanding student opportunities, and investing in infrastructure for both learning and safety.
In my time on the board already, we have approved substantial investments in safety improvements. Additional intervention and mental-health support structures have been put in place to help students before a crisis emerges. Several physical safety and security upgrades have been finished and more are in progress. I will continue to work to modernize NL-S’s procedures to ensure students can focus on learning and growing because they feel comfortable, safe, and secure at school.
