My oldest kid started kindergarten this fall so I am running for the school board with a mindset of thinking ahead. What’s going to be best for our schools for the next 12-16 years? If I don’t know enough on a particular issue, I am going to thoroughly research it to guide my decisions on how to vote. As a first-time candidate, I am coming in with a clean slate and a clean mindset to make sure I keep an open mind on the issues so that I can do research before fully forming an opinion. This mindset is what I plan to bring with me to the school board, if elected.
1. The Budget- I think there needs to be a balance between spending enough to give our students the resources they needs to have a successful academic career and overspending on luxuries (while they might be nice, they aren’t necessarily needed).

2. An effective school board- spending less time on operational issues will mean the bird can focus on improving student achievement.

3. Embrace data- monitor data and use it to drive continuous improvement. We can always change our best.
Invest in training and education on safety issues would be a priority. I also think there would need to be collaboration. Let’s make sure the staff, teachers, superintendent and the school board are all on the same page when it comes to safety. If everyone knows what to do and is well trained on it, then it becomes a habit.
