My husband Chad and I have lived in the Forest Lake community for 19 years. We have four children. Our oldest graduated in 2021 and our other three are currently in the district. I am running for school board because I believe in the value of public education. I am a unique candidate because I am a part-time district employee so I will bring both a parent and an employee perspective to the school board. I am a centrist and I am rational, objective and level-headed. I will represent the best interests of all our students and families regardless of my own personal beliefs.
I will promote the mental health of our children which is an essential part of preparing them for adulthood. I will work hard to retain our high-quality teachers and staff as we have neighboring districts that are able to pay higher salaries. I will work to bring proven strategies to reverse pandemic-era learning loss to the classroom and I will work to solve our district's ongoing issue with bus funding inequity as our district is very large geographically.
Our district has gone through extensive school safety training with law enforcement authorities from all three counties that make up our district so that we can determine our schools' capacity and readiness to protect our students and respond to a potential threat. All of our schools will use the same standard response protocol and universal terminology when managing a crisis situation. We must also address mental health concerns and make sure students feel connected.

I feel that my direct involvement with our schools, in combination with my professional experience, will help unlock the potential that has yet to be realized in our district. Our schools need a heightened focus on their primary directive, educational excellence, and I will provide the leadership to help make that a reality for our students once again. Professionally, I am a full-time business executive and I also own several businesses. This gives me great exposure to budgeting and experience in prioritization of competing initiatives. I have also been working with district employees and the board for over a decade on numerous topics such as special education, policies & procedures, and budgeting analysis.
Our community deserves improvements in communication & involvement concerning curriculum & content. We also need to address declining academic performance across the district. Our community has answered the call to fund a high-quality education for our students & test scores indicate that we’re falling short on delivery. Finally, we to need address services such as transportation & safety. Our families need consistent transportation and a safe environment for students is critical.
Safety needs to be prioritized to allow our teachers & students to focus on education. In recent years, our schools have made strides in improving the safety of our facilities. Several improvements can be accomplished by utilizing the resources that we already employ in a smarter & more dynamic way. Additional improvements can be achieved by strengthening our relationships with local law enforcement, especially those outside of Forest Lake where many of our elementary-aged children are located.
