Información Biográfica

The pandemic has highlighted the significant disparity in educational delivery in districts from no in-person learning, to hybrid models to full time in-person sessions resulting in uneven student performance. As schools reopen, how would you propose to assess student achievement and to remedy the loss of learning for so many students?

Social and racial justice issues have become a concern for all school districts, many of which have instituted anti-bullying programs to help address these issues. What kinds of criteria would you propose to measure the effectiveness of these campaigns and progress toward improvement?

Pennsylvania currently allows parents to choose whether their children attend public schools, charter, or cyber-charter schools with funding provided by state and local opponents of all of these options. Where do you stand and explain your position.

Qualifications for office My experience as a career health care finance/admin/HR professional for many years allow me to affectively oversee the affairs of publicly supported organizations. I have two bachelor degrees sociology, accounting and a Masters in Public Health.
Whether as a result of a pandemic or in a normal school year, all students must be given the opportunity to learn and achieve at their own pace. The educational process requires an evaluative method that includes an accurate assessment of a student educational achievement. From that analysis, a plan of individual instruction can be developed. Penn Hills Schools have the resources available to implement such a program as they currently do. Many smaller school districts don’t have the resources.
Disciplinary actions must be recorded and reviewed to evaluate trends as it relates to student demographic characteristics. This analysis could find that perhaps disciplinary actions disproportionately affect certain groups. Other factors to evaluate are absenteeism, participation in school activities outside the class room, and behavioral issues within the class room. I don’t think that within a diverse community such as Penn Hills, or anywhere for that matter, it needs to be said that all people are to be treated fairly regardless of who they are.
School choice should be available to parents and students. However, those schools should not necessarily be funded to the same level as public schools. Cyber schools would not have the same need for funding as schools with bricks and mortar buildings. In Beaver County a few years past, excess funding led to the cyber school officials wildly spending that lead to prison time for some. Tax payers should not have to support unsubstantiated funding. Reasonable cost finding methods should be used to justify cyber/charter reimbursements. Charters must also be evaluated for performance. A study out of Stanford University found that in many cases student achievement was substandard. Those schools should face the same scrutiny as other schools.
