Información Biográfica

The pandemic has highlighted the significant disparity in educational delivery in districts from no in-person learning, to hybrid models to full time in-person sessions resulting in uneven student performance. As schools reopen, how would you propose to assess student achievement and to remedy the loss of learning for so many students?

Social and racial justice issues have become a concern for all school districts, many of which have instituted anti-bullying programs to help address these issues. What kinds of criteria would you propose to measure the effectiveness of these campaigns and progress toward improvement?

Pennsylvania currently allows parents to choose whether their children attend public schools, charter, or cyber-charter schools with funding provided by state and local opponents of all of these options. Where do you stand and explain your position.

Assessing the each student based on their individual needs and baseline should provide a more accurate way of assessing their learning than a standardize test only. Parents/Guardians, Teachers, Counselors/Social Workers should all work together and have open dialogue in regards to student performance. The district should provide enrichment activities and classes to these students and provide the support for their families if necessary.
I am a strong supporter of anti-bullying initiatives for any reason! No child should feel as though they are less than any other for reasons beyond their control such as race. However I am a strong supporter of parents rights to educate their children on such matters. I think the end result from any anti-bullying initiative would be that a child had some take away that they can apply to life outside the classroom.

I will always support a parent or guardians right to choose what is in the best interest of their child and definitely be options for all children. With that said it is the role of the District to provide as many high quality alternatives as possible in order to keep those funds in house. I've spoken with several parents who are moving their children into PA Cyber after seeing their children struggle with their districts virtual learning curriculum. I personally would hate to see this trend continue and pull resources from the district.

If a parent/guardian determines their child education flourish in another environment then by all means I support it but I also welcome the district to have their comparative options.

Student achievement should continue to be assessed with student academic assessments & standardized testing (understanding not all students do well/participate in standardized testing). These are modes of assessment our students are used to & will allow educators to gauge what additional support is needed for each student. A baseline assessment at the beginning of the year should be implemented in subjects where they are not currently completed. These assessments will help determine the resources needed to bring into the district to appropriately support our educators and students academically as well as for emotional and mental health support. Expanding the Recovery Programming into the school year will also provide continued support.
Program effectiveness can be measured by direct feedback, observation of student interactions, & pre & post implementation data. The best way to measure effectiveness of these programs is student observations & feedback from the educators, students, & parents. Are student kinder to each other, more understanding of differences, & aware of behavior that can hurt others feelings after programming? Focus group meetings will allow for additional qualitative results. Quantitative results, driven by data, can be measured by the amount of disciplinary action that has been taken pre & post implementation of related programs & post program scenario evaluations. These programs must be curriculum embedded & part of an inclusive school culture.
Parents have the right to choose where their child is educated. A child should be educated in the best environment to meet their needs & allows them to thrive. State & local funding should be given to charter or cyber-charter schools when the public school system can not meet educational/supportive needs of a child. Public school education is free to all students, & state & local funding allows for the best education for all students at a rate the community can afford. It is my goal that the Plum Borough School District can meet the needs of all of our children and continue to build the tools necessary in areas we currently have opportunity.
