We must prioritize the return to classrooms and all school activities to allow students to develop not just educationally but physically and mentally. We must find ways for students to enjoy the full school experience without limitations. And we must make the decisions on the best way to accomplish this at the community level.

I believe it is important to make informed, data-driven decisions. Listening to community members, students, and school staff is essential for collaborating effective and efficient solutions. I will make sure to be well informed by listening to my community, reading through reports, and researching relevant data so that I can properly question and understand recommendations about how we can maximize the education and instruction of Southern Lehigh students while keeping their physical health, mental health, and the health of their entire community in mind.
Making board decisions is a balance in optimizing doing what is in the best interest of students and their school community with the resources available.

I have 34 years of teaching experience. Hospital boards have at least some physicians. Our board should have someone to speak from public school employment experience. I also have a vested interest with my daughter attending the district high school.
I will strive to 1. Make our schools safe, healthy places to work and learn: Staffing levels should be appropriate. Discipline and student behavior management are critical. 2. Value educators: Others may sympathize, I empathize since I've walked the talk. I have 'been there, done that' experience. I will work to support students, educators, and administrators. 3. Encourage a student-centered culture: I have and will continue to support the arts to reach student giftedness and wholeness. I support Career and Technical Education and apprenticeship alternatives. Finally, my mom was a nurse. My wife is a doctor. All my sisters and nieces are medical employees. I was chair of a state level healthcare committee. Health and wellness are priorities.

I believe the best way to educate children is in a face to face environment. This is where children thrive, interacting with their teachers and peers. It is not only good for them academically but socially and mentally as well. I feel this can be accomplished safely. Studies show children are not transmitting the virus to one another in a school setting. As a member of the Southern Lehigh school board, I will make it my mission to have all children who feel comfortable returning to school, able to do so, 5 days a week. We've seen a 5 day a week, full time platform be successful from school districts in our neighboring towns and SL can do the same. The kids deserve nothing less than our full effort to return them to a sense of normalcy.

As an engineer, I solve problems and make decisions every day. I believe my professional experience, as well as my passion for the success of public schools, for my children and all others, places me in a position to serve this district well.
I think it is important for voters to understand that school directors elected this year will not be seated until January 2022 and that the decisions regarding in-person learning for this school year and next will largely be decided by the current school board. That being said, I strongly advocate for continuing to follow the Department of Health guidelines, supplemented by local data and input from students, parents, teachers and administrators.

It is vital that our schools are led by a team prioritizing safe, full-time, and in-person education. As CEO of a critical manufacturer for pharmaceutical, medical, and other industry sectors, I put practical policies and protocols in place at the onset of the pandemic to keep our company safely open while installing systems around the country. By working with the school administration, a clear and transparent plan can be implemented that maintains safety in an in-school and full-time environment. It is critical for children to interact with others and have an in-person, day-to-day structure for a successful learning experience.
I appreciate the opportunity to earn your support for this important role in our community.

As a current School Board Director, I voted to follow our pandemic teams recommendations and our students started hybrid learning before many local school districts. Now all students that want to be in school full time, may do so four days a week. Remote learning is still available. We are keeping our students and staff safe by following the PA Department Of Health, CDC and our pandemic teams recommendations. Students in grades K-5 are spaced 5-6 feet apart and students in grades 6-12 are six feet apart. We've updated our guidelines as per the PDOH recommendations. We've also added teachers to keep class sizes small. Balancing mental health, pandemic safety and still educating students is a challenge that I believe has been well met.

Children need in-person education to succeed. Above all, planning an instructional schedule model should focus on student learning and competency development while considering a child's social and emotional well-being. In-person instruction can be accomplished safely with staff, student, and facility rearrangement. Knowing there is no "one size fits all" solution, a review of the district's infrastructure and resources should be considered in the decision-making process. We have an unprecedented opportunity to reflect on systems that may not have worked for every child prior to the pandemic. It will be important to engage parents as partners and ensure a open and transparent dialogue with families, staff, and our community.

I believe in putting student growth first and I will strive to identify and support new and innovative educational strategies to improve student experiences and opportunities for our children. I will work with administrators and educators to solve challenges and to focus on both the academic and personal success in order to help advance student social, emotional and academic development. Helping our educators create positive and consistent relationships can provide a buffer against the effects of stress on children and promotes resilience and better outcomes.

As a physician who worked consistently throughout the pandemic, I know first hand what it takes to keep people safe while ensuring an active, in-person, learning environment. Our response to this pandemic has taught us that our mental and emotional health is just as important as our physical health. The primary role of a school board director is to work with the district to return students back in school 5 days a week. Our children’s physical, mental, emotional, social, and academic education has suffered greatly during the pandemic, and a proper education must be restored to our community. Our children’s future growth and well-being demand we understand the comprehensive nature of health and education and prioritize the total student.
