Quakertown Community School District School Director Region 1 (2 YR TERM)

A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

I first became involved with the Quakertown Community School District and School Board as a parent member of the Facilities Committee, in 2015. The goal of this committee was to develop a 10-year master plan recommendation for all facilities in the district, a goal which had not been achieved in over 20 years. Working with other parent volunteers and touring our school buildings was an eye-opening experience. I was thankful to learn about the facility-related needs of our schools and anticipated construction costs, and how decisions made by the School Board, might impact our students, teachers and the community for many years in the future.

I have since served the district as a parent volunteer on the Redistricting Committee in 2017, and as the Chair of the Safety Committee in 2018. My goal is to use my knowledge and experience as a district volunteer to make sensible decisions that focus on the high-quality education our students deserve and keep taxpayer needs in mind.
As a parent of children in both elementary and secondary schools and as the daughter of a retired teacher and school administrator in the Council Rock School District, I am uniquely qualified to understand all sides of the challenges we face as a district.

In addition, I have been a human resources professional for over 20 years. Therefore I have strong communication skills and understand the importance of empathy and collaboration in decision-making.

Finally, I love our Quakertown community. Currently I am serving my 2nd term as Secretary of the Quakertown Soccer Club Board and since 2012, I have been involved in multiple fundraisers that support our local food pantry. To me, giving back to our community is an important part of who I am. My hope is to continue to do so supporting our District and Administration as a School Board Director.
