Smyrna, Delaware has an election on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.Update 4/2: due to a mayoral candidate withdrawal, there are no more contested seats this year, and the Smyrna election scheduled for April 27, 2021 has been canceled. Mayor Robert C. Johnson will automatically re-assume office.The Smyrna Town Council consists of an elected mayor and six elected council members. The mayor serves a three-year term.In order to adequately address the issues of Smyrna and its residents, there are several standing and ad hoc committees. These committees consist of at least one council member and at least one citizen, appointed by the mayor.

Brief background bio (a single paragraph): Graduated from Delaware State University, 1975, Possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Business Administration Current Employed as an Accountant V – State of Delaware since 3/5/2012 –Present, - Responsible for the preparation of the State’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), Prepares monthly financial reports for the Governor of the State of Delaware Provided training to State Agencies to ensure compliance of transactions according with accounting and tax policies, procedures, laws, rules, and regulations. Previously Employed as the Accounting Manager for the City of Wilmington for 16 years o Responsible for the management and control of the Accounting system. o Responsible for the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) o Prepared monthly and quarterly financial reports. I am running for re-election as the Office of Mayor because I have the experience and passion along with 31 years of municipal government experience. I will continue to work unite the community, support of our children and continue to work to bring new businesses to our town. For the past two years, we have implemented many changes in the Town of Smyrna.

I am motivated to complete projects and plans, we as Council have initiated and seek to completed during the next term.

I am motivated to be Mayor because this is my Home and I want to see my home town to continue to grow.
Increase the transparency of Town Government on the website. Continue to work with the Smyrna Library Guild to build an affordable regional library Open government means allowing citizens to access the documents and proceeding of government to allow for effective public oversight I will work with the existing businesses to address their concerns and work to bring employment, entertainment and other amenities to supplement and support our community. I will continue looking into the possibility of the Town providing broadband services to the Citizens of Smyrna. Work with organizations and State agencies to address the homeless issue in Town. Continue in providing annual entertainment such as Smyrna Night Out and the music venues in the park. Working with Kent County Levy Court Commissioners to build an amphitheater for the outdoor concerts Development a formal plan to continue to upgrade and maintain our infrastructure, streets, and electric facilities. Continue to provide the Town'
If re-elected, I will continue to increase the transparency of Town Government. I will continue to promote open government, because citizens have the right to access the documents and the proceeding of government to allow for effective public oversight. I will continue to increase intergovernmental working relationship and the sharing of resources.

I will continue to be available to respond to my constituents via cell phone and email. Continue to seek Citizens’ buy-in, or our Town will not cannot grow, we cannot prosper and we cannot succeed. My goal is to continue to reach out to all the citizens in Smyrna and have meetings, so they can express their issues and concerns.
