Southern Oregon Education Service District Zone 1

Special districts in Oregon are formed to govern specific resources. Examples are people’s utility districts, library districts, sewer districts, irrigation districts, ports and cemetery districts. Some districts get revenue only from taxes. Others, such as water districts, get revenue from ratepayers. Others may combine the two sources. Each district is governed by a board of directors which is responsible for the operation of the district and its financial accountability. Your Experience/Qualificatons I've spent the past 3.5 years serving on this board and will be honored to continue. The past two years I've also served as vice-chair. I am a professional educator with more than 20 years of experience in the classroom. My experience is quite diverse, traversing across curriculum, ages and continents.
SOESD's mission is to provide services and leadership to optimize educational opportunities for children, schools, and communities. The board's mission is to assist in making that happen while maintaining fiduciary responsibility to the public. SOESD budget is $50 million annually, employing 275 people serving Josephine, Klamath, and Jackson Counties.

The inspiring work of SOESD provides life-changing support to students and families. This includes technology and media services to local school districts, special education for students with disabilities and their families, and school improvement services. All invaluable this past year, helping local school districts continue to provide access to education for everyone.
Service to the community, and helping to shape and build the world I live in is a life tenet. The opportunity to assist our local school districts in providing an equitable education for all is near and dear to my heart. I'm a strong advocate for people without a voice and for what is right. I'm honored to serve on the board of Southern Oregon Education Service District, and will proudly continue doing so if elected.
It has been a very challenging year navigating through the barriers that the pandemic created for everyone. In education, we have continued to provide service and access to education for everyone despite facing budget funding cuts. The focus remains on providing the education while maintaining the fiduciary responsibility to our community.
