As a father of 4, I understand how important education is. Our students and families deserve the best education possible and I believe we can provide that in Emporia. We are blessed with outstanding teachers and staff that care deeply about our students. I believe that as we move into the future we are going to continue to face challenges in public education and strong leadership is going to matter. We will need experienced leaders on the board that will put students first and work to take care of our teachers and staff so that they can provide for our students. I am that strong leader that will continue to push USD #253 to be the best school district in the state of Kansas.
Our budget priorities should be student focused, we need to ensure that we are providing safe and secure learning environments for our students and staff. It is important that we continue to maintain our facilities, to ensure we are being responsible with taxpayer facilities. We need to do all we can to provide the most competitive wages possible for our Teachers, Administrators and Staff as they all play a vital role in making sure our students get the best education possible.
I believe one of the most pressing issues is making sure that ALL students receive the highest-quality education possible, as a board member it is my job to continue to lobby our State Legislators to make sure that USD #253 is being funded at a level that allows us to make sure that all students get what they deserve. Another pressing issue is recruitment and retention of high quality teachers and staff to USD #253, without the best and brightest working in our school district we won't be able to continue to be the leaders in education in the state of Kansas as we have been for many years. We have some of the best teachers and staff working for us right her in Emporia, it is imperative that we are able to keep these talented individuals while working to aggressively recruit the best and brightest to join our team here.

Personal Biography
I want to help all students reach their full potential. As a native Kansan and Horizon Award winning educator with a master’s degree in Education Policy, I uniquely understand the needs of students and school systems. Before I was an educator, I volunteered with Communities In Schools and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Now, when I’m not working to improve schools and communities, you can find me with a charcuterie board and a good book.
Education
Master's: Education Policy and Leadership- American University.
Bachelor's: Social Science Education- Emporia State University.
The school board plays a crucial role in the successes of students, teachers, and school systems. Educators deserve a seat at the decision-making table. My background in education policy, restorative practices, trauma-informed teaching, and school redesign provide me with a unique skill set that will benefit all stakeholders. As a long-time member of the Emporia community, improving education and giving back to our students has always been my goal. I pursued a career in education to ensure that all students receive an excellent education, as well as the resources and support they need to reach their goals.
My main budget priority is to work towards a balanced budget that serves all students and teachers. I would support a budget that includes: resources to help meet the superintendent’s 100% graduation rate goal, resources to help at-risk students and students in poverty, sustains the capital outlay work that has been done, and relevant, meaningful professional development for staff oriented toward recruiting and retaining high-quality educators.
Currently, there are many issues facing students, families, and our school district. I believe that the most pressing issues for our district are to improve graduation rates, increase resources for student success (especially for at-risk/high poverty students), and recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers. Consistent, highly trained educators are the bedrock of our school system. It is crucial that we continue to maintain a qualified set of teachers that are committed to serving our community for the long run. Our excellent teacher force will work to address the other issues within our district.
