Personal Biography I am a huge supporter of Wichita Public Schools. I was an employee for 28.5 years and know from the inside and also as a parent that WPS is a great school district! I want to do what I can to be involved and keep it great! I think my experience working in the Facilities Division in the District--last serving as Division Director--puts me in a unique position on the board to make a significant contribution on the Board's behalf.

Community/Public Service I have served in child care, Sunday School, adult Christian Ed and administration in my church for 45 years. I have served on numerous City of Wichita Boards. I have been involved in my children and grandchildren's schools. I serve on the Board for Legacy Ministries, LLC and for Grace Med in addition to BOE, USD #259.
I attended Wichita Schools: McCollum, Hadley & West. My husband attended Wichita School's: Griffenstein, Mead and South. My daughters attended Sunnyside, Isely, Robinson and East. I believe we have a great school district and a great superintendent. I serve in order to give back back and to do my part to support this great school district.
Schools provide much support for the mental health of students. Teacher's are very important to children as key, caring individuals in their lives. Plus, kids are able to access additional supports and resources at school. The administration and BOE are attempting to do what we can to assist with mental health of students and teachers in this extremely difficult time and year. This includes a recently approved expenditure of additional mental health resources for all staff.
Civic involvement is an important factor in being a contributing citizen to society. Many students participate in volunteer programs through school and learn what it means to give back to their communities. Our current BOE has often time spoken to and encouraged civic involvement in school classes and activities.
The demographics of Wichita indicate that enrollment will be decreasing in the next four years. Decreased enrollment means decrease money. We have just recently begin to recover from the massive funding cuts we incurred under Gov. Brownback. We will need to be very judicious to fund the priority programs for student success.
One of the functions of tax dollars is to fund public education. The public education system will be negatively impacted if additional dollars are taken away. At a minimum, if tax payer dollars go to non-Public schools, they should be required to meet the same standards and rules as public schools.
This is not at item that we have wanted to have to consider but neighboring districts are look at "pay to ride" programs so Wichita will probably have to look at it, too.
