I have been involved in volunteering with the Basehor Linwood School district since 2006 when I moved into the district. I have served on the site councils for Linwood Elementary, Basehor Linwood Middle School and High School. I have served on the PTC for Linwood Elementary. Also I have served the entire district as a board member for the Basehor Linwood Education Foundation, and served on the past two strategic long range planning committees for USD 458. My three children currently attend school within the district.
I want to serve to provide a parent point of view to the school board. Provide a voice for other parents to express their points of view. I want to use my experience as a banker to help the district to be as fiscally responsible as possible, while still meeting the needs of a growing school district. Provide a business person view to not only managing people, but to the financial side of the district.
Managing the district growth and issues that surround growth. Expanding the current class offerings and pathways, and continue to support both teacher, parent and student needs. The past 10 year growth rates of new students to the district being over 100 new students per year, will be a major issue to confront if that pace continues. Being proactive on new buildings and maintenance issues will be at the forefront. Keeping up with districtwide policies and maintaining qualified staff and teachers will also be an issue as we are close to the Kansas City Metro area, and their is competition for all good employees. Work to build consensus on new ideas within the staff, parent, and student world for the right way to move the district forward. Work together with these groups to listen to everyone's different point of view and look for commonalities, and be open to those new ideas.
New buildings and growth will continue to happen, and this will create need for expansion of the district and possibly new bond issues. I will help look for ways to be fiscally responsible with the tax payers money. Stay on top of bond issues and while in low rate environment look to save money. Review all purchasing methods (make better use of purchasing card programs) and as possible look to consolidate ordering within the district and make better use of economies of scale. Look to increase efficiency anywhere possible to reduce redundancy.
Work to provide as positive work environment as possible, a competitive wage pay scale for not only teachers, but for all staff. Keep an open mind to new ideas that teachers, staff and parents come up with. Adapt to new teaching methods, be progressive in programs and general board support for new ideas and continue to provide trainings, education and support a promote from within atmosphere.
