I have lived in the city of Spring Lake Park for over 25 years, and have lived within the bounds of ISD 16 for over 40 years. In that time, I have been a volunteer soccer, softball and basketball coach. I served on the Spring Lake Park Park and Rec commission for over 10 years, overseeing programs and park maintenance and development. I have served on the city council since 2016, when I was appointed, and elected in 2018. During the last 6 years, I have been the primary liaison to the Planning and Zoning commission, the Tower Days planning committee as well as a stint as liaison to the Anoka County Fire board. I know the community, including the school district, very well.
Ensuring all citizens safety and well-being. We need to continue to support our police and fire departments in these trying times by providing adequate staffing, tools and equipment. Continue to make wise budget and taxation decisions. We are a small city that has significant tax exempt properties, so we need to ensure that we make thoughtful decisions. Take the necessary steps to both retain existing businesses and encourage new business commerce in the community.
Encourage people to become involved. Support the idea of "if you see something, say something." Too often people witness issues, but are hesitant to call the police. Encourage people to attend events like "Coffee with a Cop" held at HyVee. As stated above, ensure that our police and fire departments are properly staffed and have the necessary tools and equipment to do t heir jobs well. Listen to the citizens so their voices are heard.
