As the grandchild of a state trooper, I am keenly aware of the importance of public safety professionals. I also know we can do better to protect and serve Minnesotans. We must use proven strategies beyond policing to disrupt criminal activity and stop violence. A partisan, extreme U.S. Supreme Court is putting our civil rights at risk. I am committed to ensuring that Minnesota remains a place where women have reproductive freedom, everyone can marry the person they love, and our right to vote is guaranteed. Climate change is an immediate threat to Minnesota. Agriculture and hunting are industries that depend on clean water and soil to survive. Green energy protects our natural resources and has created more than 62,000 jobs in Minnesota.
Our right to vote is fundamental to our democracy. Every citizen has the right to elect leaders who best represent their needs and interests. The election process should be fair, secure, and easy to understand. I am committed to supporting policies that do not create barriers to Minnesotans' freedom to vote.
We need to take a close look at zoning practices and support initiatives like Ramsey County’s FirstHOME buyer assistance program to maintain access to quality, affordable housing. Healthcare disparities are prevalent and detrimental to the lives of people of color in our communities. We must expand coverage and lower costs so that all Minnesotans can access the care they deserve. I support legalizing, taxing and regulating cannabis and expunging all convictions for marijuana possession.
An economy that works for some and not for all is insufficient. I want to enact responsible tax cuts to put money back in the pockets of families, seniors, and small businesses while protecting Minnesota’s economic stability. Job training and retention programs can create the skilled workforce our businesses need, while affordable childcare and high-quality early education options can support working families to succeed in their careers.
Active shooter drills have become as common as tornado and fire drills in schools. I have had students ask if I would take a bullet for them, which is the best window to open for escape, if the closet would stop a bullet - this has to stop. I will always choose the lives of children over the gun lobby. I support legislation to raise the age limit on gun sales from 18 to 21 to reduce the amount of gun violence among young adults.
