I bring an academic background, experience, and interest to this position. In 2005 I earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on technology from Kansas State University. From 2000 through 2005 I was a professor of Computer Science at Concordia University Wisconsin, which included serving on the Faculty Development Committee. From 2002 through 2006 I served on the Hartford Wisconsin Joint 1 School Board (k-8) as a director and later as treasurer. I continue to teach Civil Air Patrol classes online using various platforms. I believe that each person should be a life-long learner. An educator should be a guide helping each student grow to the best of their ability.
1. Defend the First Amendment rights of faculty, staff, students, and parents. Each person has the right to be heard, even if their opinions go against popular opinion. 2. Improve technology education. Minnesota does not have stand-alone computer science standards. Our students are competent users, but often cannot create programs or understand how the computer works. 3. Champion fine arts. The arts are "integrating" subjects which draw on all aspects of education.
Academic safety: defend the First Amendment. Personal safety: recognize that each person is a unique individual deserving respect. Physical safety: encourage best practices concerning school security, both in the buildings and at activities.
