Clearwater City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

In my four years serving as the mayor of Clearwater, the city has negotiated a one-million-dollar fire service contract with Lynden and Clearwater Townships. Every neighborhood has seen street improvements. The city has entered into an orderly annexation agreement with Clearwater Township during my tenure, growing the city and increasing the tax base. I respond to emails and phone calls quickly and have a positive relationship with city staff.
Keeping positive relationships with adjacent townships. Great relationships take time and effort but result in easier to negotiate contracts and agreements. Moving the boards and commissions I am on towards balanced budgets, as needed, especially the Sewer Authority. Balanced budgets that account for future capital improvement needs are less volatile and able to obtain equipment as needed while reducing the need for bonding. Grow city staffing to better serve the needs of the residents.
I currently sit on the fire relief board and will continue to do so if re-elected. We do a budget review and workshops every year which included capital improvement planning and needs as well as staffing and contract needs. We evaluate the county sheriff contract and negotiate as needed. Included in future budget planning is hopefully increasing the size of the fire hall.
