I have great respect and affection for Jackson, its history, people and traditions. I graduated from Jackson High School in 1965 and have been a resident since 1976. I have served the community in many capacities including the JHS and JCC School Boards, JCC Education Foundation, Jackson Community Foundation, and have taught a local history course in the JCC Community Education program. I have also served Southwest Minnesota as a member of the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF), a well-respected organization in promoting the economic growth of our region and the well-being of all of our citizens. SWIF's most recent major initiative was focused on addressing childhood poverty in our region.
1. We need to continue innovative efforts at promoting Jackson's downtown business district and industry. 2. We need to continue our strong commitment to infrastructure improvements. 3. Find a way to save the indoor pool! The swimming pool provides a great place for recreation and healthy activity in our community. And we should all agree that water safety and swimming lessons for our children are important in our "Land of 10,000 Lakes." We will lose a significant asset if we lose the pool!
Public safety depends primarily on two elements: Public awareness and support and respect for our local law enforcement and fire departments. I believe we have that in Jackson and need to continue! I also see great cooperation between all the police and fire departments in the region. This is a great and very safe place to live!
