North Mankato City Mayor {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I have been a resident of North Mankato my entire life. My personality is outgoing, selfless, compassionate, very hard working, and a natural ability to lead. The last few years, I have felt a tug to begin giving back to the community I love! My great grandparents were early settlers to the Mankato area. The Carlson family has a tremendous history being early members of the North Mankato Swedish Mission Church (Crossview Covenant), of which I am a 4th generation member. My Grandfather and father were both long-time, highly respected optometrists in Mankato (Carlson-Tillisch Eye Clinic). I have blazed my own trail and used my gifts of teaching, coaching, and leadership to serve Mankato Public Schools for 31 yrs. as a coach and teacher.
My top three priorities are: 1. Limiting tax increases and working hard to create a city budget that stays within our means. Keeping in mind that we will work with the city to continue to be good stewards of the taxpayers money. 2. Budgeting long term for park, trail, and recreation development and upkeep. 3. Supporting our police and fire departments through the budgetary process and out of the box strategies.

My mind doesn't stop observing my surroundings and thinking about what works and what could be improved. We need to think out of the box to work through issues like improving public safety in our city and regional pockets within our community. We have a fantastic police chief (Ross Gullickson) who has great insight in this area. I would like to work closely with him and neighborhoods to strategize future safety and security, which is a collaborative effort between the city and its citizens.
