1. Healthcare autonomy for women and the LGBTQ community. Protecting abortion access and transition healthcare is foundational to my values. I will fight for universal single-payer healthcare, and I will fight have safe and legal access to necessary medical care for women and queer people. 2. School funding. Especially funding for mental health specialists and social workers in every school every day. 3. Housing stability, rent protections, and growing housing opportunity. Every part of social and professional success builds from stable and reliable housing. We need to keep rents affordable, housing stock available for first time buyers, and build new, efficient housing to ensure everyone has a place to call home.
Minnesota's elections are safe and secure. We have a model system for the administrative of our statewide elections and we need to recognize that the only real threat to our elections right now is the attempt to restrict access to the ballot. Protecting the right to vote for all Minnesotans is crucial, and we need to oppose modern poll taxes such as felony disenfranchisement, voter ID laws, racial gerrymandering, and limited access to the polls.
Racial disparities underlie all of our historical civil and political systems and we must maintain a values-driven approach to the huge number of racist outcomes this has produced. We must name racist white supremacy, and call it what it is. By embracing anti-racist values in every policy and plan--particularly in public safety, education, housing accessibility, and protecting the right to vote and participate in our democracy-- we can build a Minnesota where everyone can thrive.
The Minnesota State Legislature can help people meet the real economic needs of Minnesotans by protecting renters from spiking rents and eviction, protecting workers and union organizing rights. We can help with the cost of rising groceries, gas, and other immediate needs with direct payments and free transit access. A vibrant and fair economy will require a more just taxation system. Raising taxes on the wealthiest Minnesotans will help us build an equitable future for all of our neighbors.
We must reduce the number of guns in our communities. I would start by lifting and supporting organizations dedicated to ending partner violence, sex-trafficking, stalking, and more. We must pass red flag laws with teeth, to ensure that those with violent domestic pasts are not able to purchase deadly weapons. We must ban the sale of semi automatic weapons. We must ban the sale of high-capacity magazines, specialty bullets, and other mods that only serve to make deadly weapons more efficient.
